Mark Leech was eight years old when his mother died. His father, unable to cope, became an alcoholic. Mark, the youngest child, was taken into care and sent to boarding school. His brief period of happiness there was shatered on the death of his housemaster; he subsequently became the victim of routine sexual abuse, a 'secret' he was to endure for the next three years.By the time he was thirteen he was in an approved school, learning to hotwire cars, and by fifteen he was in borstal, his forst taste of imprisonment. He has been in and out of prison ever since.
